Children's Week - The science of the senses
In our video we will explore the senses -sight and sound. What are our senses, how do they help us navigate our world? How do the senses differ between different living things? Explore these wonderings with Dr Loz and play along at home - see if you can guess the Secret Sounds and the Mystery Microscope images! Test your touch and smell senses in a fun blindfolded activity, challenge yourself to draw with your eyes closed and experiment with sound by changing the shape and size of your ears. https://www.scienceplaykids.com.au/attend-an-event
Colour change detectives
Want to know how to make a secret message? Join Dr. Loz and her kids on a hunt to find clues on solving the mystery - who ate the gingerbread. Using a few household ingredients you can make your own invisible messages that are only revealed using the special properties of TUMERIC. Tumeric contains a special molecule, called curcumin, that changes colour when exposed to acids or bases. Watch our video to find out how this works and learn how to make your own version at home.
Episode8-Science in Toys - Beyblades and Spinning Tops
Grab a beyblade, or if you don't have one, make a spinning top with a plastic lid and a skewer, and send some food colouring flying! Check out how energy is transferred from one object to another in the SUPER colourful, SUPER creative experiment. Then use the results as stunning wrapping paper or gift cards!
Episode 9 -Simple Machines - The Lever- Catapult
Get crazy with Dr. Loz (who has a PhD in biochemistry AND two children under 7) as she shows you how to set up and run your own awesome science experiments, using materials you have around the house. These aren't the usual, same old, science experiments you see time and time again. Dr. Loz has reinvented science education, mashing it with a huge scoop of creativity, engaging all your senses and creating memorable and fun, hands-on experiences that won't be forgotten easily. She explains the science in easy to understand language but doesn't dumb it down AND, she ties it back to everyday examples so that you can SEE the science in YOUR everyday. Want to learn about simple machines? Simple machines make our job easier. Levers, inclines, wheel and axle, wedges, pulleys, and more. Make a simple catapult and send things flying. Watch Dr. Loz and her mini helpers fling marshmallows and catch them with their mouth. Make some crazy art by flinging pompoms soaked in food dye at a piece of paper. Dr. Loz's videos are perfect for children at home looking to explore science (with an adult if they are too little to experiment on their own) and perfect for educators and teachers looking for new ways to engage children in science. Exploring with your Magic Water cloths
These are awesome for mess free play. These amazing mess free cloths, turn black when they get wet and, when the water evaporates, they go back to their original white so they are 100% percent reusable. We have found so many different activities that we can do with these beauties rather than just using them to practice writing or simply painting on. We use them with spray bottles which strengthen little hand muscles and coordination skills, we use them with straws and blow water around to help develop awareness of mouth muscles, we use them with pom-poms soaked in water to strengthen arm muscles and to hone hand-eye coordination, we hang them up and watch gravity at work creating drip paintings, we use them to investigate shapes and their 2-dimensional areas etc etc etc. We have restocked these in our shop so if you’re interested go check them out.
